1. Prepare the device

During the installation, you will need to configure the PADS4 Server location. Best approach is to complete the installation of the PADS4 Server first, before continuing the configuration of the device.

The minimum PADS4 Server version required for the PADS4IAdea app is version PADS4 Foundation 2023.1.

When you turn the device on for the first time, it will show the Basic Settings. (If it doesn't show this, then please first factory reset your device, as described in ‘1.2 resetting the device’.)

 

1.1. Prerequisites

Before installing PADS4IAdea on the XMP Series, please make sure the following conditions are met:

• OS: Android 12

• Firmware version: 4.0.2-48

• The device is connected to a the network

 

1.2. Resetting the device

If your device was used before, we recommend that you factory reset your device, so that all storage is freed and no other software interferes with the PADS4 Viewer software.

Step Description
01 Open the basic settings on IAdea.
02 Click on Advanced.
03 Select System -> Factory Default.
04 Start the factory reset by pressing the OK button.

The device will factory reset and afterwards you will see the basic settings screen.

 

1.3 Checking device firmware

To run the PADS4 viewer properly on the IAdea XMP-8550 /XMP-8552 and make sure that all functionality works, you need to have firmware version 4.0.2-48 installed. Please check using the following steps.

02 Click on Advanced.
03 Select Information.
04 Firmware version is listed on the right side of the screen.

 

1.4 Updating device firmware

To update the firmware please follow the instructions in the document provided by IAdea. Firmware can be updated over the internet or downloaded from the IAdea support page (https://support.iadea.com/).

 

2. Installing PADS4 Viewer

To install the PADS4 Viewer on the IAdea display, you first need to get in the android menu of this device.

Access android on IAdea:

2.1. Install PADS4IAdea from USB stick

The PADS4IAdea.apk can be downloaded from your PADS4 Server. Goto https://[YourPADS4Server]/PADS4/apps and download the PADS4IAdea.apk

You can also download the latest version of PADS4IAdea from here

If you download the latest version, make sure that you will also place it in the apps directory on the PADS4 Server, because if the server is containing a newer version, it will install that version of the PADS4IAdea app, once connected to the PADS4 Server.

 

Step Description
01 Copy the PADS4IAdea.apk on a USB stick.
02 Insert the USB stick into the device.
03 Go to the basic settings.
04 Click on advanced.
05 To get access to android, click 3 times in the lower right corner of the advanced menu (see image above).

You should now see the default Android home screen

07 Start the File Manager app
08 If the File Manager is missing the storage permission, it will ask for this, allow the File Manager access on the device.
09 If the File Manager is missing the USB device permission, it will ask for this, allow the File Manager USB access.
10 Now click on internal in the left upper corner of the file manager and select USB.
11 Then select the PADS4IAdea.apk.
If apps from an unknown source are blocked, you will get a warning and need to click on Settings.
There enabled the unknown sources option, then press back. And select the PADS4IAdea again.
12 Press Install and after installation press open.
13 Continue with step '2.4 configuring the device for PADS4IAdea'.

 

3. Configuring the device for IAdea

Next we are going to change the device setting to make sure it automatically start the PADS4 Viewer on device startup.

01 In the PADS4IAdea app, click on System Setting, this will open the IAdea Basic Settings
02 Click on Advanced.
03 Select Content -> AppStart.

Open the advanced sub menu.

05 And in the Package Name field specify 'com.pads4.viewer.iadea'.
06 Press button SET
07 Click on the back button to go back to the basic settings.

 

3.1. Validate Date Time configuration

Validate if the date and time are setup correctly on the device, otherwise it is possible that you will get certificate errors or other connection issues.

Step Description
01 In the Basic Setting menu.
02 Validate the time and timezone information displayed.
03 If needed, you can configure the correct time and timezone information, by clicking on the current displayed time.
04 Go back to the PADS4IAdea app, by clicking play.

 

3.2. Connecting to PADS4 Server

Now the device is ready to run the PADS4 Viewer and we only need to connect to the PADS4 Server. To do this, you only need to specify the PADS4 Server Address and press the start button. The PADS4 Server Address format looks like this:

<protocol>://<host>:<port>/<hostpath>/

  • Protocol: should either be http or https, depending if you are hosting with a valid public signed ssl certificate
  • Host: DNS name or ip address of the PADS4 Server
  • Port: is optional, if the PADS4 server not using the default ports for http or https, you should specify the port number.
  • The configured hostpath in system management, the default value is PADS4.

Example: https://localhost/pads4

Connecting to the PADS4 Server:

Step Description
01 Specify the correct PADS4 Server Location.
02 Optionally specify a viewer name, if not specified the PADS4 Server will generate one.
03 Press the start button.
04 The PADS4 Viewer will now be downloaded. Wait until it is finished, then the viewer will start.
06 The first time it will ask for the permission to permanently store content on the device, grant this permission.
05 When connected to the PADS4 Server, the viewer will validate the installed PADS4IAdea app and chrome installed. Probably on the first installation Chrome will be updated in the background and the app will restart after installation.

Now the viewer should start and connect to the PADS4 Server. After that, you can configure the other settings like screen orientation or block remote control with the PADS4 Agent or in the Viewer Settings.

 

3.3. Adjust PADS4 Viewer settings using the options screen

You can adjust the PADS4 Viewer settings directly on the display. To enter the options screen on the device itself, hold the left mouse button down or touch the screen for 5 seconds. In the options screen you can also return to the PADS4IAdea app by pressing the Launcher Settings button.

 

3.4. Accessing IAdea Basic Setting menu when PADS4 Viewer is running

To access the IAdea Basic Settings menu when the viewer is running, you need to open the viewer settings, then click on Launcher Settings. This will open the PADS4IAdea app, here you can press the System Settings button and it will open the IAdea basic setting menu.

 

4. Updating PADS4 Viewer and PADS4IAdea app

After the initial installation of the PADS4 Viewer and PADS4IAdea app, if you update the PADS4 Server the PADS4 Viewer and PADS4IAdea app will automatically update to the version available on the PADS4 Server.
