Supported BrightSign Series-5 players
The following Series-5 players are supported:
- BrightSign LS5
- BrightSign HD5
- BrightSign XD5
- BrightSign XT5*
- BrightSign HS5 (build-in)
* HDMI-in XT1145 & XT2145 are not supported; Dual HDMI-out on the XT2145 is not supported
Minimum PADS4 Server Version
During the installation process, you'll need to configure the location of your PADS4 Server. To ensure a smooth setup, we recommend completing the installation of the PADS4 Server before configuring your BrightSign player.
For BrightSign Series-5 devices, you'll need a minimum PADS4 Server version of PADS4 2023.2. Make sure your PADS4 Server meets this requirement before proceeding.
Minimum BrightSign OS Version
The BrightSign player you're installing PADS4 on must be running BrightSign OS version 9.0.120 or later. Please ensure your BrightSign device meets this minimum OS version requirement before proceeding.
If your BrightSign player isn't currently running 9.0.120 or later, you'll need to update the OS. You can update your BrightSign player in two convenient ways:
- BNS.cloud: This cloud-based BrightSign network management platform allows for remote firmware updates for your players.
- BrightAuthor:connected: BrightAuthor:connected allowes you to update the firmware directly from your PC.
Supported storage
Currently, the only supported storage device for PADS4 on BrightSign players is a microSD card. Please ensure your BrightSign player has a compatible microSD card before continuing with the installation.
Generating the PADS4 Viewer for BrightSign Players
The PADS4 Viewer application for your BrightSign player can be generated directly from your PADS4 server. Follow these steps:
- Open a web browser on your computer.
- Navigate to the following address: https://[yourPADS4Server]/[domain]/Apps/Brightsign
Replace the placeholders with the following information:
[yourPADS4Server]: Enter the DNS name or IP address of your PADS4 server.
[domain]: Enter your PADS4 domain name.
Example: https://example.pads365.com/PADS4/Apps/Brightsign
Pressing Enter will launch the PADS4 BrightSign Player Wizard. This wizard will guide you through the generation process in three simple steps.
Using the PADS4 BrightSign Player Wizard
The PADS4 BrightSign Player Wizard consists of three steps:
Step 1: Configure PADS4 Server
- The PADS4 server URL will be automatically populated based on the address you entered in your browser.

Verify that this URL is correct and click Next to proceed.
Step 2: Download BrightSign Player Files
- Click the Download button to download a ZIP file containing the BrightSign Player application.
- Once the download completes, click Next to continue.
Step 3: Extract and Deploy Files
- Extract the downloaded ZIP file.
- Insert a microSD card into your computer's card reader. Ensure the card is empty.
- Copy the extracted content from the ZIP file onto the microSD card.
Completing the Installation on your BrightSign Player
Once you've completed the steps above, the microSD card will contain the necessary files to run the PADS4 Viewer on your BrightSign player. Here's how to proceed:
- Remove the microSD card from your computer's card reader.
- Insert the microSD card into the designated microSD slot on your BrightSign player.
Starting the PADS4 Viewer:
- If the BrightSign player is already powered on, it should automatically detect and start the PADS4 Viewer application after inserting the microSD card.
- If the PADS4 Viewer doesn't launch automatically, you can manually trigger it by pressing the Reset button on your BrightSign player. This will cause the device to reboot, and the PADS4 Viewer will automatically start upon completion.
Congratulations! You've successfully generated the PADS4 Viewer application and prepared the microSD card for installation on your BrightSign player. By following the above steps, the PADS4 Viewer should launch automatically on your device.
Finalizing your PADS4 BrightSign Player Setup
Upon launching for the first time, the PADS4 Viewer on your BrightSign player will display a name like "BrightSign0002". This name is automatically generated by the system.
To assign a more descriptive name to your viewer, you can utilize the PADS4 CTRL Center.
