1. First time use

During the installation, you will need to configure the PADS4 Server location. The best approach is to complete the installation of the PADS4 Server first, before continuing installations on the device.

The minimum PADS4 Server version required for the PADS4Giada app is version PADS4 Foundation 2022.1.

The minimum PADS4Giada version supporting the DN73 and DN74 is version PADS4Giada 1.0.

1.1 Resetting the device

If your device was used before, we recommend that you factory reset your device, so that all storage is freed and no other software interferes with the PADS4 Viewer software.

Step Step Description
1 Open the Android Settings
2 Select Backup & Reset
3 Select Factory data reset
4 Click on button Reset Tablet
5 Confirm the reset by clicking on button Erase Everything

PADS4 only supports the firmware versions listed below. Please ensure the devices have these firmware versions installed before installing the PADS4Giada app.

Step Description
1 Open the SuperSU app
2 Go to Settings
3 Click on Default access
4 Select Grant in the dialog that appears

2. Installing PADS4 Viewer

Please follow the instructions below to run the PADS4 Viewer on the Giada DN73 and DN74.

2.1 Install PADS4Giada from USB stick

The PADS4Giada.apk can be found on the PADS4 Server in the clients apps folder of the PADS4 installation directory. The default PADS4 apps directory is ‘C:\Program Files\PADS4\Clients\Apps’.

You can also download the latest version of PADS4Giada here. If you download the latest version, make sure that you will also place it in the apps directory on the PADS4 Server, because if the server is containing a different version, it will install that version of the PADS4Giada app, once connected to the PADS4 Server.

Step Description
1 Copy the PADS4Giada.apk on a USB stick.
2 Insert the USB stick into the device.
3 On the device select the FileExplorer app
4 Select USB
5 Click on the apk file
6 You can get the message for security, your tablet is set to block the installation of apps obtained from unknown sources. If you get this message, continue with the next step, otherwise go to step 12
7 Click on Settings in the message dialog
8 Enable the switch of the Unknown Sources option. This will trigger a confirmation dialog.
9 Click on OK in the confirmation dialog
10 Go back to the FileExplorer app
11 Click on the apk file again

13 After the installation is finished, you can click on Open to start the PADS4Giada app

2.2 Validate Date and Time is configured correctly

Step Description
1 In the PADS4Giada app open Android settings by clicking on System Settings.
2 Go to date & time Menu.
3 Configure the date & time correctly and if the network allows it you can enable auto sync date and time.
4 Go back to the PADS4Giada app.

2.3 Connecting to PADS4 Server

Now the device is ready to run the PADS4 Viewer and we only need to connect to the PADS4 Server. To do this, you only need to specify the PADS4 Server Address and press the start button. The PADS4 Server Address format looks like this:

• <protocol>://<host>:<port>/<hostpath>/

• Protocol: should either be HTTP or HTTPS, depending if you are hosting with a valid public signed SSL certificate

• Host: DNS name or IP address of the PADS4 Server

• Port: is optional, if the PADS4 server not using the default ports for HTTP or HTTPS, you should specify the port number.

• The configured hostpath in system management, the default value is PADS4. Example: http://localhost/pads4

Connecting to the PADS4 Server:

Step Description
1 Specify the correct PADS4 Server Location.
2 Optionally specify a viewer name, if not specified the PADS4 Server will generate one..
3 Press the start button.
4 The first time it will ask for the permission to permanently store content on the device, grant this permission.
5 Then if the Android System WebView isn’t up to date, it will download and install a new version of the Android System WebView.
6 Then PADS4 Viewer will now be downloaded. Wait until it is finished, then the viewer will start.
7 After the download, the app will check if it is set to Home App, if not, it will request to be configured as home app.
Please select the PADS4Giada app and press always.
8 If the PADS4Giada app wasn’t configured as home app, you need to press start again to start the viewer

Now the viewer should start and connect to the PADS4 Server. After that, you can configure the other settings like screen orientation or block remote control in the PADS4 Ctrl Center or in the Viewer Settings.

2.4 Adjust PADS4 Viewer settings using the options screen

You can adjust the PADS4 Viewer settings directly on the display. To enter the options screen on the device itself, hold the left mouse button down or touch the screen for 3 seconds. In the options screen you can also return to the PADS4Giada app by pressing the Launcher Settings button.

2.5 Updating PADS4 Viewer and PADS4Giada app

After the initial installation of the PADS4 Viewer and PADS4Giada app, if you update the PADS4 Server the PADS4 Viewer and PADS4Giada app will automatically update to the version available on the PADS4 Server.

2.6 Accessing Android menu when PADS4 Viewer is running

If you access the Android menu while PADS4Giada is running, the device will reboot in about 30 seconds. This is because the viewer monitor service detects that the viewer is no longer running and because of this the device will reboot. If you would like to prevent this from happening, stop the PADS4Giada app within 30 seconds.
